- Biography |
Monica Sandell (1953, Landskrona-Sweden)
Monica Sandell's figures, made of clay with coarse grog are, in spite of their rough, seemingly unfinished skin, of a quiet beauty. Of a tenderness in which every line, each unevenness is the result of a long search.
A grasping for form and location The almost human characters, sunk in their own ideas, are enough to themselves.
Even as a group they are not together. Each of them seems an island of silence, a silence uninfluenced by the other.
A universe of their own.
Monica Sandell, self-educated and surrounded by a group of critical artists, has developed herself in the last ten years - working many hours every day - into a sculptor with her own vision and form language.
A creator of images in which many will recognise themselves. An artist amongst admirers, who collect and cherish her work.
